Northern, Proud and Loud
I’m raw, unfiltered, Northern, Proud and loud,
Certainly not a bird made for silence or blending in with the crowd.
My past’s been messy stitched with pain like history’s thread,
But I wear it like armour, not a ball and chain of dread.
They wanted me to be neat, quiet, and tame,
But I ditched their labels and rewrote the game.
I’m not here to be liked, I’m here to be real,
And that’s the risk when you speak what you feel.
I didn’t just survive, I used my scars to thrive,
From hospital beds to graduation gowns, I came alive.
Then I found my pen, my weapon of choice,
Which gave me a fist with a voice.
It didn’t just whisper; it screamed and soared
And allowed me to rewrite the script others tried to ignore.
I’ve stood in rooms I never thought I’d enter,
From teenage chaos to a UN centre.
I spoke my truth with trembling pride,
While the ghosts of my past stood outside.
I didn’t just find my voice, I forged it in flame,
And now I speak for those still silenced by shame.
My mess is messy, but it’s mine to own,
My rebel’s path is carved in flesh, pen, and bone.
My writing is trauma-informed with a sarcastic twist,
And I like to rewrite the rules with my rebellious fist.
I’m Sheffield born and bred, and I will no longer be denied,
I’ve found my sweet spot where truth and swagger collide.
So, if you’re after quiet, best turn the page,
Because I’m Northern, noisy, and I’m not about to fade
I’ve earned my place and found my stride,
This is my truth, and I’m not about to let it slide.

Tracey, this isn’t just poetry—it’s a declaration. “Northern, Proud and Loud” doesn’t whisper, it marches. And that Have a Word With Yourself logo? It’s not just branding—it’s a badge of honour. “Unapologetically Northern and Not Backing Down” wraps around your name like armour, and it speaks for every woman who’s ever been told to shrink.
Your words carry grit, grief, and glory. That line—“a fist with a voice”—stopped me in my tracks. I know what it means to forge truth in flame, to speak while ghosts linger just outside the room. You’ve turned lived experience into legacy, and on 25 September, that legacy takes centre stage.
I’m looking forward to it with pride. Because this isn’t just a book launch—it’s a reckoning. And you, Tracey Ford, are not fading. You’re blazing.
With respect and resonance,
