Don’t ever Underestimate a Woman in Recovery

They saw her through a lens of shame and proclaimed

“She only had herself to blame.”

They couldn’t see the afflictions that lay behind the addiction,

That this wasn’t a choice; she was just another woman who’d lost her voice

She would smile and try to pretend that everything was ok whilst trying her best to keep her addiction at bay.

But some days, it was hard.

All her life, she’d felt like she didn’t belong. She didn’t know it then, but she’d been wrong.

She’d always wanted more but assumed it was out of her reach until she heard another woman preach.

This woman claimed she’d freed herself from addiction’s grip on freedom’s call and believed that every woman had the power to conquer all.

As she spoke, a quiet rebellion stirred, and for the first time in her life, the prospect of change no longer seemed absurd.

Inspired by hope, she tried new and different ways to cope.

She started by surrounding herself with other women who understood her plight who gave her the courage to continue to fight.

She no longer felt the need to hide, because she’d found her own recovery tribe

With her newfound honesty and open heart, she began to mend ties that had once been torn apart.

Her heart became a fortress, strong and true and as every scar healed, and in time her courage grew.

Armed with faith as her shield and strength as her sword, it wasn’t long before she began to reap her recovery rewards.

Her past now serves as a rich tapestry that tells a tale of battles fought, and she now shares her own story about how her newfound strength was sought.

Over time, she’s slowly changed the world’s view of what a strong, independent woman can do.

And Today with her self-esteem and confidence intact, she stands tall.

A reminder to us all that any Woman in Recovery can conquer all.
