The Puppeteer

He held the strings, he played the part, he pulled her close, then broke her heart.

He swore to shield her from all harm, and yet he stole her voice, her glow, her charm.

She hung onto his words, deaf to her own, like a silent echo she felt trapped and alone.

She watched, she waited, stood aside, because life was so much easier when she allowed him to decide.

What was hers was theirs, but what is was his was his, he didn’t care and didn’t like to share

For years, she danced to his demands, like a puppet being played by his invisible hands.

His marionette—she played the role, Until she started to unravel herself from his control and has his grip grew tight as steel, she gasped for breath and struggled to kneel.

The more she got wise, she saw through his lies and realised he was narcissist in disguise he was just an insecure man with a cunning plan.

Someone who’d played on her weakness to gain control, then sapped her of her confidence make himself feel whole

There had been many times she’d tried to break free but then she realised he wasn’t going to let her go that easily

Every time she tried he would turn on the tears to get his own way to manipulate her to stay with more promises he’d change his ways

Stuck in a vicious cycle she became emotionally and mentally drained but the desire for a different life still remained,

Then one day one of his words hit a nerve, something stirred within her chest, a longing she had long since suppressed.

It was anger.

Defiant she stood her ground and she pledged to herself that this time he wasn’t going to win her around

All his broken promises to change started to fall on her deaf ears, as did all of his crocodile tears

Finally she refused to return to the place they used to call home and instead chose to go it alone

She seized a blade, cut through the ties and her puppeteer master vanished along with all his hollow lies.

From shattered glass, she forged a mirror, reflecting only truth—crystal-clear.

She was never broken, only bent and now she rises—bold and unrepentant.

No longer a marionette in his show, she writes her own story, which helps her to emotionally and spiritually grow

Now she walks with a steady stride and shares her story for other women who feel trapped inside, who still doubt their strength and who are still yet to rise.

She shows them that their scars don’t make them weak and that freedom waits for them when they dare to speak.
