I have been working on this poem for over a year, after watching birds go about their daily business whilst i was sat on a bus going into work. – I hope you like it
Envy
Some days, I envy the bird flying high in the sky,
Free from the weight of the world, just watching the hours drift by.
I envy the creatures of the night who move through the dark out of sight
Whilst I lie awake in my bed with worries that take over my head.
Some days I envy the rivers, how they run wherever they will,
Never rushed by society’s expectations, never having to be told to “be strong” or “be still.”
I envy the whispering branches that sway with the softest of breezes,
How they bend without breaking their spirit, whilst I’m dropping to my knees.
I envy the stars in their distance, how they shimmer yet stay out of sight,
How they shine without anyone questioning their labour, their love, or their light.
I envy the moon in her cycles, being allowed to wane, withdraw, resist,
Never told of her fading’s weakness, never shamed for being missed.
She’s proof that power isn’t constant, that rest is a right, not a crime,
That stepping back is survival in a world that steals our time.
Some days I long for that freedom to drift, to disappear, to be small,
To rest without guilt or performance and not have to answer humanity’s call.
But deep down, I know there is something still rising, still fierce, still alive
A quiet, unbroken resilience that keeps driving me from inside
So, for today, I will breathe like the bird in the open, explore like the creatures of the night,
And trust that while I continue to stay present, my soul will remember its own way back to my inner light.

I absolutely love how this comes together….I like the use of metaphors to capture your struggles, the bending of branches without breaking….magic!!!
